What to do at Lekki Conservation Center, Lagos

What Lekki Conservation Centre actually is
Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) is a 78-hectare nature reserve on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, established in 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation with support from Chevron. It exists to protect a patch of Lagos's coastal wetland forest, and it's become one of the city's most popular things to do for anyone who wants nature without leaving Lagos itself.
The canopy walkway
The centre's main draw is a 401-metre canopy walkway — the longest in Africa — suspended roughly 20 metres above the forest floor. It's a proper rope-and-plank suspended bridge, so it sways a little as you cross, which is part of the appeal rather than a flaw. From the top you get a genuine bird's-eye view over the reserve's tree canopy, a rare vantage point this close to the city.
The boardwalk and wildlife
Beyond the canopy walk, a raised boardwalk winds through the wetland forest at ground level, good for a slower pace and better wildlife spotting. Keep an eye out for monkeys — they're used to visitors and have no shame about approaching for food, so keep snacks zipped away — along with a range of resident and migratory bird species, and if you're lucky, a glimpse of the reserve's more elusive crocodiles from a safe distance.
Practical info: getting there and cost
LCC is located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, close to the Chevron bus stop, and is easiest to reach by rideshare (Uber or Bolt will take you right to the gate). Entry fees have changed over the years, so check current pricing before you go rather than relying on an old figure — expect a modest gate fee, sometimes with the canopy walk priced as a small add-on. Weekday mornings are quieter than weekends, if you'd rather avoid the crowds.
Tips for your visit
Wear proper closed shoes — the boardwalk and canopy walk aren't built for sandals. Bring water, since there's a fair bit of walking and Lagos heat doesn't let up. It's a genuinely good spot for a first date, a family outing, or a couple's afternoon — plan for two to three hours if you want to do the full walkway and boardwalk without rushing.
