Safety tips
Nairobi is generally safe in tourist areas. Avoid displaying valuables, use official taxis, and stay in well-lit areas at night.

Gorilla permits
Book gorilla trekking permits months in advance ($700). Limited permits available daily. We can help arrange these.
Transport
Boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) are everywhere but can be risky. Use the SafeBoda app or our arranged transport for peace of mind.
Local specialties
Try rolex (chapati with eggs), matoke (plantains), and fresh Nile perch. Street food is generally safe and delicious.

Safari timing
June–July is excellent for safaris — dry season means animals gather at water sources, making wildlife easier to spot.
Zanzibar ferries
Fast ferries from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar take 2 hours. Book in advance during AFCON — we include this in our packages.
Health
Malaria is present — take prophylaxis, use DEET and sleep under a net where provided. Drink bottled water only.
Getting around
Bolt and dala dalas cover Dar es Salaam. Domestic flights are the fastest way to Serengeti and Kilimanjaro.
