Requirements by host country

Kenya

South African passport holders can visit Kenya visa-free for up to 90 days.

Uganda

e-Visa required at visas.immigration.go.ug. Fee: $50 USD.

Tanzania

e-Visa required at eservices.immigration.go.tz. Fee: $50 USD.

East Africa Tourist Visa

Not needed for Kenya. For Uganda, the East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) can still be worth it if adding Rwanda.

Practical tips for South Africa travellers

  • Kenya entry is visa-free — just bring a passport valid 6+ months beyond travel
  • Still apply for Uganda and Tanzania e-visas in advance
  • Yellow fever certificate required if arriving from or transiting a country with risk of transmission
